Cleveland’s Lake Erie Monsters will make their first home appearance of the 2016 American Hockey League’s Calder Cup Playoffs Saturday, April 23rd at 7:00 p.m at Quicken Loans Arena when they take on the Rockford IceHogs in game three in their best-of-five game first-round series. After a strong regular season showing at home, Monsters players have high expectations for their first taste of playoff hockey at The Q.
“I expect the atmosphere to be unbelievable, it’s been really good during the regular season, so I can’t imagine how it will be in playoffs,” goaltender Anton Forsberg said.
In the regular season, the Monsters set a franchise record for wins at home, finishing with a 25-8-1-4 record. That strong record at home also helped them break the franchise regular season points record with 97.
With three games breaking the 13,000 attendance mark already this season, Monsters RW Markus Hannikainen anticipates a “Loud, tense, excited, packed house full of energy,” during postseason play at home.
The Monsters defeated the Rockford IceHogs 5-1 on Thursday at the BMO Harris Bank Center in Rockford, IL to claim a 2-0 series lead. If the Monsters get a victory in game three of the two teams’ first-round series on Saturday at The Q, the Monsters can punch their ticket to the second round of the Calder Cup Playoffs for the first time in franchise history.
“I can’t wait to see all the fans come out and support the boys,” RW Paul Bittner said.
